FAPA Canada condemns UN hypocrisy

The Formosan Association for Public Affairs Canada (FAPA Canada) condemned the
United Nations today for failing to take human rights seriously. FAPA Canada took
issue with the United Nations' continued exclusion of Taiwan and the incongruous
election of China to the UN human rights council.
“How can the United Nations claim to uphold human rights?” asked Dr. Harry Chen, the president of
FAPA Canada. “How are we supposed to take the UN seriously when the democratic nation of
Taiwan is excluded but China is elected on the human rights council despite its atrocious
human rights records?”
Taiwan has attempted to gain entry into the UN since 1991, but China and its allies stymie its
attempts each year. China was elected to the 47-member human rights council on Tuesday.
“Taiwan's human rights record has steadily improved each year, while China continues to
destroy Tibetan and Uyghur culture, torture Falun Dafa practitioners, and censure free
speech,” added Chen.
“If the United Nations is serious about protecting human rights then it should reward
Taiwan for its democratic behaviour,” remarked Stan Lai, the vice-president of FAPA
Canada. “UN member-states need to ignore the irrational objections of China and
admit Taiwan into this international organization.”

L’AFAP Canada désapprouve de l’hypocrisie de l’ONU

L’Association Formosane pour les Affaires Publiques (AFAP Canada) a reprouvé l’ONU
aujourd’hui pour avoir négligé les droits de l’homme. L’AFAP Canada s’est opposée à
l’exclusion de Taïwan dans l’ONU et le choix de mettre la Chine dans le conseil pour les
droits de l’homme de l’ONU.
« L’ONU ne peut plus prétendre de protéger les droits de l’homme. » a dit Dr. Harry Chen,
le président de l’AFAP Canada. « Si la nation démocratique de Taïwan est exclue de l’ONU
mais la Chine est élue dans le conseil pour les droits de l’homme, comment peut-on
estimer l’ONU? »
« Taïwan respecte la démocratie et la liberté, mais la Chine continue à opprimer la culture
tibétaine, les practitiens de Falun Gong, et les activistes démocratiques, » a ajouté Chen.
« Si l’ONU veut vraiment protéger les droits essentiels, elle doit admettre
Taïwan pour son gouvernement démocratique, » a remarqué Stan Lai, le
vice-président de l’AFAP Canada.

加拿大台灣人公共事務會譴責聯合國的虛偽

加拿大台灣人公共事務會(FAPA Canada)今日譴責聯合國沒有嚴肅看待人權問題。FAPA Canada 認為中國之不當入選聯合國人權議會及繼續排斥台灣,都有損聯合國的名譽.
「聯合國怎麼有臉說它在維護人權?」加拿大台灣人公共事務會會長陳星旭博士質問,「聯合國已經將一個具有殘暴人權記錄的中國選為它的人權議會會員, 而繼續將民主的台灣排除在外,我們怎能再嚴肅期待聯合國?」
自從1991年以來,台灣每年都向聯合國申請入會,但每次都被中國及其支持者阻撓而沒有成功.本星期二,中國竟然被選為擁有47名成員的人權議會之一.
「台灣的人權記錄每年持續進步.反而中國卻繼續在摧毀西藏,維吾爾的文化;以酷刑對待法輪功學員,並且嚴禁自由言論,」陳博士又說.
「如果聯合國真的有意保障人權,它應該獎勵台灣的民主成就,」FAPA Canada 副會長賴再挺指出,「聯合國的會員國應該不管中國無理的反對,表決贊成台灣加入聯合國.」
