Canada must work for release of Celil from China

The Formosan Association for Public Affairs Canada (FAPA Canada) condemned the
extradition of Huseyincan Celil to China where he faces the death penalty. Celil, a
Canadian citizen was arrested by Uzbekistan authorities and extradited to China,
where he faces the death penalty for human rights work in the Uyghur region.
“Canada must demand the immediate release of Celil, a dedicated human rights and
democracy activist for the Uyghur people,” stated Dr. Harry Chen, president of FAPA
Canada. “China must not be allowed to execute human rights activists, let alone
Canadian citizens.”
“It is a shame that China continues to trample upon the rights of minority groups, such as
Uyghurs and Tibetans,” added Chen. “We call upon Prime Minister Harper to express his
staunch opposition to such acts against humanity.”
“The government of Canada must realize that the Chinese authorities work against
Canadian values of human rights, democracy, and freedom,” said Stan Lai, the
vice-president of FAPA Canada. “Canada needs to state its opposition to the Chinese
occupation of East Turkestan and Tibet, while supporting the right of Taiwanese self-determination.”

Le Canada doit obtenir la libération de Celil de la Chine

L’Association Formosane pour les Affaires Publiques (AFAP Canada) condamne
l’extradition de Huseyincan Celil à la Chine où il pourrait être exécuté. Celil est
un citoyen canadien qui a été arrêté par les autorités ouzbeks et extradé à la
Chine où il confrontera la peine de mort pour son travail pour les droits humains.
« Le Canada doit exiger la libération de Celil, » a dit Dr. Harry Chen, le président de
l’AFAP Canada. « On ne doit pas laisser la Chine exécuter les activistes des droits
humains et les citoyens canadiens.»
« Le gouvernement du Canada doit réaliser que la Chine s’oppose aux valeurs canadiennes
de la démocratie, la liberté, et les droits humains. » a ajouté Stan Lai, le vice-président de
l’AFAP Canada. « Le Canada doit affirmer fortement son opposition à l’occupation chinoise
du Tibet et du Turkestan oriental, tout en soutenant le droit d’autodétermination des taïwanais. »
