Hu Jintao to be met by demonstrators in Toronto
For immediate release
Friday September 9, 2005, Toronto, Ontario, Canada -
Chinese president Hu Jintao will be met by protesters during a banquet
that he will attend in Toronto at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on
September 10. A demonstration will be held opposing China's military
belligerence towards Taiwan.
"We will state unequivocally that Taiwanese will not be bullied by Chinese
military threats," said Prof. Albert Lin, the coordinator for the
demonstration. "We now see the true nature of Hu Jintao's
anti-democratic, dictatorial, and oppressive regime."
There will be protesters there from the Taiwanese, Tibetan, Uyghur, Falun
Dafa and Hong Kong communities. "The fact that there are so many voices
opposing Chinese hegemony shows how brutal Hu's government is," stated Dr.
Harry Chen, president of the Formosan Association for Public Affairs
Canada. "We call on Hu Jintao to immediately renounce the use of force
against the democratic nation of Taiwan."
Demonstrators will begin gathering at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre
at 6:00pm on Sept. 10.
