FAPA Canada calls on Martin to oppose Chinese aggression
For immediate release
Tuesday September 6, 2005, Toronto, Ontario, Canada -
The Formosan Association for
Public Affairs Canada (FAPA Canada) called on Prime Minister Paul Martin
to express his displeasure with Chinese military aggression at the state
dinner with Chinese president Hu Jin Tao on September 8. FAPA Canada's
president, Dr. Harry Chen, called on Martin to make this a grave Canadian
concern.
"Peace and stability in East Asia is in Canada's interest," stated Chen.
"I ask Prime Minister Martin to make it clear that Canada opposes any
military threats by China towards the island nation of Taiwan."
"Canada should stand up for its democratic allies," continued Chen.
"Martin must make it clear that China's threats of force run counter to
Canadian values of peace, democracy, and respect for human rights."
FAPA Canada will also help organize a protest during Hu Jin Tao's visit to
Toronto on September 10 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
"China's history of military threats, government sponsored massacres, and
persecution of Tibetan and Falun Dafa activists is truly abhorrent,"
stated Stan Lai, vice-president of FAPA Canada. "At the protest rally we
will make it clear such methods are strongly opposed by Canadians."
